F.A.Q

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of vinyl do you use?

We use premium Oracal 651 outdoor-rated vinyl, designed for long-lasting performance on vehicles and other smooth surfaces. Under normal conditions, the vinyl has an outdoor durability rating of approximately 4–6 years, depending on climate, sun exposure, and proper installation.

Should I install my decal using the wet or dry method?

Smaller decals are typically installed using the dry method, while larger vehicle graphics are often easier to install using the wet method with an approved application solution.

If you're unsure which method is best for your decal, feel free to contact us before installation.

My decal isn't releasing from the paper backing. What should I do?

Small details and fine points may occasionally remain attached to the paper backing.

Before peeling, firmly burnish the transfer tape using a squeegee or similar tool. Peel the transfer tape back slowly at a sharp angle. If part of the decal remains on the backing paper, press that area again and continue peeling slowly.

If necessary, carefully lift stubborn pieces using your fingernail or a hobby knife.

Can it be too hot or too cold to install my decal?

Yes.

For the best results:

  • Install between 50°F and 85°F (10°C–29°C) whenever possible.

  • Avoid installing during rain or excessive humidity.

  • Avoid installing on extremely hot surfaces exposed to direct sunlight.

Allow the adhesive to cure for 24–48 hours before washing your vehicle.

Can I install a decal on a freshly painted vehicle?

No.

Do not install vinyl decals on freshly painted or recently repaired surfaces until the paint has fully cured according to your body shop or paint manufacturer's recommendations.

Applying vinyl to uncured paint may damage the paint or clear coat when the decal is removed or repositioned.

Will the decal damage my vehicle's paint?

No, not when installed and removed properly on factory paint that is in good condition.

Do not install decals on:

  • Freshly painted surfaces

  • Peeling paint

  • Failing clear coat

  • Rusted or damaged surfaces

Removing vinyl from damaged or deteriorated paint may cause additional paint failure.

Can I install decals over ceramic coating or wax?

For the best adhesion, decals should be installed on a clean surface free of wax, ceramic coatings, grease, silicone, and other protective products.

If your vehicle has recently been waxed or ceramic coated, properly clean the installation area before applying the decal.

What if I make a mistake during installation?

We understand that installation mistakes happen.

If your decal is damaged during installation, we offer a one-time replacement discount of 70% off the current retail price of the same design.

Simply email info@decalsbycoy.com with your order number, photos, and a brief explanation of what happened.

Can I reposition the decal after installing it?

We do not recommend repositioning the decal once it has fully adhered to the surface.

Attempting to remove and reapply a decal may damage the vinyl or your vehicle's finish.

Can I wash my vehicle after installation?

Yes.

Please wait 24–48 hours after installation before washing your vehicle to allow the adhesive to fully bond.

After curing, the decals are safe for normal hand washing and most automatic car washes.

Avoid using abrasive brushes or aggressively scrubbing the edges of the vinyl.

Are your decals removable?

Yes.

Our decals are designed for long-term outdoor use and can be removed when desired. Using a heat gun or hair dryer will help soften the adhesive and make removal easier.

Removal may take additional time depending on the decal's age and exposure to the elements.

How long do the decals last?

Our premium Oracal 651 vinyl is designed for long-term outdoor use and has an expected outdoor lifespan of approximately 4–6 years, depending on climate, sun exposure, and proper care.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the installation area before ordering.

If you're unsure which size will look best, contact us before purchasing. We'll be happy to help you choose the best option for your vehicle.

Can I trim my decal during installation?
